This came up on another forum, and there were a lot of smart answers about how dumb this guy was. I'm glad to see no one has jumped on that band wagon here. Accidents happen, carelessness, equipment failure, distractions and a host of others. I've worked in maintenance and construction all my life and have seen more than my share of accidents, have a few of my own, I hope everyone will continue to see this for what it is, someone made a mistake and is sharing how easy it is to make one of those mistakes. Slow down when your working and if looks risky it probably is. Thanks for not being a bunch of jerks like on the other forum, have a great day 8-)..

Even on the other post, still no jerk remarks about how dumb he was. Says something about the character of this group..

I agree.
Sometimes we do things that seem like a good idea that go very wrong. We all have done it
Pointless to make anymore of it than that.

you read the poor guys post and really feel bad for him.  I mean he is so upfront and honest about what happened and how it was clearly a dumb move.  I would think most people would lie about what happened.  This guy clearly has a lot of character, good character at that.

I'll tell you what fascinates me in this. The guy had half his hand chewed away, and he's got the presence of mind to say, "Hey, I ought to get some shots of this." Talk about a cool head in a crisis.
I agree about the responses on this forum. I saw some real smart @$$ replys on the other forum. Some of those guy seemed downright smug.
I'd rather be outside than in.

I would probably be doing my best Yosemite Sam's hand-caught-in-mousetrap impression if that happened to me*...but nowadays, people look for a camera to put it on the web. Amazing.

*but I wouldn't because I don't even leave the keys in the ignition while I'm working the chain.
