I love the way Magnas look without a shield, but I would still like to have one on hand for touring purposes. Can anyone recommend one that they like that is easily added/removed ? I would like to leave it off for tooling around town, then attach it for longer rides. Any input here is appreciated.  :-)

Are you looking for a full shield or a sport shield?

First Chris, let me welcome you to Moot from Safety Harbor, Floriduh!

I use the Memphis Shades "big shot" - For me it provides good coverage without being a barn door...

To your point, the windshield mounts with brackets that mount to the forks. By loosening 4 allen screws, the windshield comes off (remember to tighten the allen screws when you remove the windshield, so you don't loose them while riding!). The windshield can be adjusted some up and down for height (by moving the brackets up and down the forks, and forward and back to provide the best looks and protection..

I suggest the "Solar" which is tinted, but makes the shield the most invisible. They have gradiated colors, but my experience is over a short time "crazing" developes in the colored area. This looks like little tiny cracks in the color area.. The Solar does not do this, or takes much longer..

Here is a shot of my bike with the windshield. It is adjusted a little to far forward in this shot, it is more in line with the forks now..

In this shot, you can bearly see the windshield...

I also recommend the Memphis Shades Big Shot.  I've got a gradient black on my bike in Michiagn, and a gradient yellow on my bike in Texas.

Good stuff guys, thanks!
Charles, if I had my druthers, it would be a full shield since it would be on only for longer rides. The only "must" though would be to be able to quickly add or remove, as my around town preference is no shield. Totally agree with you Hoot on the solar with no gradient, I appreciate the pics and the info, I do think due to the drag bars that I will need a fork mounted shield.

Memphis Shades offer a Memphis slim and a Memphis fats I like the Memphis fats both can be mounted with quick release mounts, One thing to keep in mind is the choice between a polycarbonate and Acrylic  the poly is tough and almost indestrutable but will scratch a little easier,  acrylic is a little harder to scratch but will shatter easy. The difference is in cost, Most of the companies offer a quick release. Someone on here can tell you the best places to look, I'm usually broke so I have to hunt on ebay for bargains  good luck.

I use a "big shot" on my '96 blue bike.  I use the blue gradient because it goes so well with my blue paint.

One interesting point regarding Memphis Shades.  If you ever need to replace any of the brackets or parts for same, just contact them with original proof of purchase, and they will ship replacements for free -- at least according to the info I received with my latest purchase from them.  Too bad I didn't know this before, as I have one that I bent with an unplanned get-off, and ordered the new mounting kit because I had lost some of the parts!

My windshield mount was missing one of the attachment buttons when I bought the bike and Memphis Shades shipped me a couple replacements at no cost.  I think I only had to provide the serial number from the windshield.  They did suggest you make a donation to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis if you wanted to pay for the replacement parts.

That's what I call "a class act".

I did the same as Hoot above and yes, a class act. I did the donation to St Jude.

Hey Terry-thats the kind of stand up company I like to do business with. Looks like its going to be a Memphis shades. Not sure if it will be the Big Shot or Fats, but will def be Memphis shades. Thanks to everyone for their input. Its very comforting to have such a knowledgable resource here.

I had a similar experience with National Cycle customer service.  Had a shield that was showing some tiny stress fracture cracks at the screw holes and the scratch resistant coating was coming off.  They said send it in, the sent me a brand new unit NO questions.....

National Cycle units usually are polycarbonate  VERY TOUGH

Memphis Shades was a sponsor for MOOTMag # 4 giving us a complete shield for a Magna, AWESOME.  They are made of Acrylic.

Would greatly appreciate some pics of the Fats mounted on a Magna David. Also, is it too much shield in your opinion for hot summer riding?  I suppose at somepoint after I become independently wealthy I will have a "summer" shield and a "winter" shield, but until then I would like to find one that will work for both. THANKS !!

That's what I do, I have a Fats and a Slim, both use the same mounts, easy to swap out. Also many other good options above.
