Today I rode a Honda VTX 1300 with floorboards. The foot controls were much further foward then my Magna. I really liked the feel. I know that alot of you guys have the forward controls. Do they help alot? Wouls you ever go back to the standard set up? My Magna just feels a little cramped and my knees are up too high.

I feel your pain. It'd be nice to have a little more room. Seems like if the footpegs were just a couple of inches further forward that would help the cramped feeling a bunch. But then I don't know how that would effect using the brake and shifter. I guess forward controls would be the best solution although they can be a bit pricey.

The '96 I just bought came with Jardines installed.  It is taking me a while to adapt.  I am sure they will feel fine on a highway trip, but it feels awkward to lift my feet forward when I take off.

The first '96 has stock controls.  I put some highway pegs on it, which allows feet in either place.  The one with the forward controls has no options.  Don't know how it will work out on longer rides, as I am in the process of replacing the tires now, -- the old ones are a bit questionable.

Once I have had a chance to spend some time on the bike, I will come back to this post and report.  May be a couple of weeks before that happens...

I have Mapam's on my '94.. The stock set up was cramped for my 6'1" frame..
I am much more comfortable now.. I have 4 positions..
Regular
Lay my feet over the pegs
I also have some highway pegs that I took off my wife's Sabre So I have feet on the highway pegs (A little cramped, and then lay my feet across the highway pegs (Sort of like sitting in a recliner)

Between these 4 postions, I prevent most leg cramps.. But not Hind quarter cramps on long trips.. Note how I have the foot pegs facing up to make the laying of the feet on the highway pegs more comfortable

These look interesing:

They allow for a variety of foot pegs and are reasonably priced.  I'm not sure they'll work with the Hondaline engine guards like the Mapam's will though.

Hey... Looks OK to me..
With any option, just make sure you are cramped with the stock set-up.. I let my Short Legged friend ride my bike sometimes (while I ride my wife's) and my mustang seat pushes on his thighs quite a bit because of the "reach" for him.. I have no such issue..
