Sheared off sissy bar/backrest

In relation to this post,

when I hooked up the jumper cables to my bike, prior to this event, I was trying to push start it so I either

LEFT IT IN GEAR or IT SLIPPED OUT OF NEUTRAL....i'm leaning toward the first one...

so basically, as I hit the gas and the bike fire to life....

as I started to release the clutch, the bike jumped out from under me ( I wasn't on it).

Luckily it just fell over (it almost ran into my friends car).

However, when I went to lift it up, with my shear strength ....I held one handlebar and had my other hand on the backrest sissy bar.

Well, I guess the forces of the motorcycle and the forces of my lift caused the sissy bar to shear off completely.

I'll follow up with pictures to show damage.

At $500 to replace this part, I'm going to look for other options...

I should really change my sig again back to UNLUCKY DAN.

Things I need to do:
Change oil and filter
Replace sissy bar
Fix dent on gas tank
Replace both tires (still thinking of darksiding Allen )
Fix Speedometer

5 years of ownership and my expensive basket case keeps working against me.

I hope nothing else chooses to break...

The thought of owning a newer more expensive motorcycle...all I can see is

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to buy and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to maintain and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to repair

End of rant.

@ my friends the other day and he was complaining about the new crate motor he bought.  It is for a 1991 Mustang GT.  He had the intake sand blasted and they left sand in it.  Started the car and it sucked the sand in, got in the oil and ruined all the bearings and crank, had to have the whole thing built again.  So he now has $6k in that 302 engine, in the meantime he went ahead and built a stroked 302 to put in instead.  So, trust me the car is more expensive.

why did he not look it over before installing it?!?!?! seems a litle crazy to me....

Does seem naive.  But have you seen what the intake looks like on a 91 Mustang?  Not easy to see into like most.

I was at a factory where they melted down the material and poured it into molds for those mustangs It was soooo hot in that place. I didn't work there, I was doing some work there years ago with a friend of mine. I know they are hard to see in and whatnot, but I would have blown the compressed air from a compressor just to be sure, maybe even a bath in some mineral spirits or something. what a bummer
