A little background, went out to the ride after work and started it.  Turned over immediately, like always :), but it seemed sluggish, almost as if it weren't hitting on all 4.  Anyway, feathered throttle a bit and finally got it past that hesitation and warming up nicely.  No odd sounds.  Happened to squat down to look under the tank, into the carb/valves area and noticed the unattached end of a hose.  Didn't mess with it then except to ascertain that the other end was attached somewhere on the back of the carb bank (I think).  Got home and popped the tank up to take a look see.  No help, jiggled the hose and the whole thing came off in my hand.  Can't see where it had been attached and can't find anywhere the other end might attach either.  I've gone looking through the parts fische but can locate anything remotely resembling it.  I am old and losing my eye sight I know but it either that or it miracuously flew up under my tank into the carb area and lodged there.

Here's a pix to share, maybe one of you fine members may have seen it before.

Greg - I seem to vaguely remember when I was up there last April possibly finding a hose attached somewhere in the carb vicinity but not being able to figure out where the other end attached???

Anyway, any help greatly appreciated.  Didn't seem to affect my ride home but don't want to screw something up either.

Marc.

I can take a pic of mine if you would like.  Both of mine are not attached to anything.  Seems to just be a vent of some sort.

Marc it is a vent tube and is located near the throttle cable adjustments. You can remove the coils to get a better view of where it goes. I looked at the parts fiche as well and only found this part: Honda part# 16199-MB1-881, Grid D-10 #29

As Jeff and Bryan have already stated it appears as it is the air cleaner box vent line.

So, what's the purpose and do I need to tear the top end apart to put it back where it's supposed to go?  Probably need to find a replacement cause one end is cracked.

It basically is to help equalize pressure in the airbox is about the easily way to explain it.
If you can put it back easily then do so, and if one end is spliting and you can cut a little off and still hook it up you can get away with that.

Didn't have the opportunity to get out to the bike and reattach that hose but not having any difficulty with the bike because it's not on there.

May have to do some work on it one afternoon after I get home from work.

I just hate messing around up under the tank.  Too much junk you have to disassemble to get to where you want to be!!!
