Is there any interchangeability between the CDI box from the 1986 magna and any of the other years.
what about any other bikes?
Also, any ideas on testing a CDI box? anyone live in DFW area willing to let me plug that in to see if it works?

I have read a lot about this but have not done it yet since mine still works. I was just trying to figure out what to do if I ever needed to since they don't make them anymore. As far as I can tell, the only ones that will work are 85 and 86 from a V45 . The V65 is not interchangeable because the advance curve is different . Also I think the wiring is slightly different . I've heard that you can't change the advance curve on those boxes because the Eprom is locked. I have heard of people repairing them and the cause seems to usually be bad solder joints or bad electrolytic capacitors. The bad part is that you have to cut the box apart with a dremel or something and then the board is sealed with either rubber or epoxy resin which you would have to remove. I've never actually been able to locate a schematic for the box itself so parts replacement would be a gamble. Transistors and capacitors are usually marked.

I have heard of some getting a Dynatek 2000 ddk1-12 to work with some modification because it's actually made for the V65. It's expensive though. Here's a thread about it if you want to look into it.

Can't guarantee any of this because I haven't actually done it (and hopefully never will have to) :?
