Had to get up at O dark thirty yesterday, drive from Mckinney to Scurry buy and load the bike, get back to Dallas by 9 to work at 18/8 till 6 that night. $450 was all it took to get the bike in the back of my truck, undamaged oem seat, side covers and title in the cab and key in my pocket.

PO stated carbs had been cleaned by Billy C last year and was running great. Stopped at 7/11 to put a bucks worth of gas in the tank to be defeated by a seized lock. Locksmith neighbor came over and shot the lock with some of his stuff. Worked the lock open this morning.  Could I be so lucky as that was the only thing I will need to do.

If you got home with an operational V65 for that price, you just won the world championship of motorcycle acquisition.  Good luck with it.  Keep us informed.

So when I changed out the fuel filter my other v65 I had fuel all over the place despite clamping the line with a mini vice grip. I drained the tank on this one, not much in it,  perhaps a quart, and now I have 3 gallons of fresh gas in the tank but no fuel in the filter nor fuel flowing out of the line from the auxiliary tank. So first problem to resolve is the restriction on the fuel delivery to the pump.

Got it started and took it for a spin. Shifts smooth, doesn't pop out of gear. Overheating but no biggies there. Will still need to pull the auxiliary tank.and clean the gunk out of it.

Great news...
Sounds like you have had one before, but I'll throw this out there (as I always do) Make sure the Fork brace has been replaced.

Yeah, I need to find a fork brace before I venture off my street and hit the road.  Luckily I have one on my 86 that I can take off and have a local machinist mill a second one from it.   This is my second v65 and third magna in the garage.  I have a 98 also.  I shelled out a bank breaking 1350 for both of the v65s and both turned out to be runners.  First one needed a new battery, ebay radiator and some gas.  This one, this one just needed some tenderness to get the locking gas cap opened.  I'll be visiting oriellys to pick up a thermostat and temp sensor to start tracking down the overheat problem.  For all I know it's not overheating and for 20 bucks I have no problem sending 30 year old parts to the landfill.  Fan stat is working but I'll probably upgrade that also before the texas summer.

Super Brace is pretty proud of their work to a tune of around 166.00  What is funny is that I could purchase the same exact brace for an 83 GL1200 for 66.00.

BTW the bike runs like a scalded dog.
