This is my schedule on maintenance, may not be exact to the manual.
First and most important you should RIDE LoL.
Clean and lubricate (I used chain wax) the chain 600-800 miles (I usually did it at 1000) adjust as needed.
Check tire air pressure once a week will depend on tire check for recommended on side of tire.
Change oil and filter 3000 miles  if you use a non synthetic, 5000 it is a blend, and 7500 if it is a full synthetic, I like the Mobil 1 MX4T.
Check air filter in normal riding situations every 8000 miles, and replace if needed or put K&N air filter in and clean and recharge it.
Watch brake fluid and if it becomes tea colored change/flush with fresh, should look like apple juice color otherwise every 2 years make sure you use DOT 4.
Coolant should be checked annually and depending on brand used change every 2 years to 5 years (some brands are good for 5) get Phosphate and silicate free.
Plugs check and replace as needed every 16000-20000 miles.
Valve adjustment, not usually needed even though the book calls for checking and adjusting at 12000 miles.  I have only seen 2 out of more than a couple hundred that actually needed adjustment and they were more than likely out from the get go.
Clean bike thoroughly monthly, best way to get to know your bike and find things needing attention.

I am very impressed with john's web-page it has a lot of great information.

I was looking at it the other day.  I will be going to the store and pick up 2-printer cartridges and plenty of paper.
