Lost both in two days.  (Am looking for replacements, see post in For Sale/Wanted section.)
I am pretty sure I had 'em seated properly in the rubber grommets.
Anyone else experiencing this?  Distressing as they were part of a custom paint job :(

I lost one after struggling to get it on correctly. Shortly after that I took some fishing leaders and attached it to the frame by the mount and have never had the problem again.

Replacing the rubber grommets that hold them on every five years seems to work as well.  Mine are getting old............(now where'd I put that fishing leader?) LOL

No need for a reason other than the journey.

I make a list of the little things like the rubber grommets, foot peg feelers (he he) and such, and save those up for when I place an order from an on-line OEM reseller. A few months back I bought all new grommets for the side panels just for back up. Although I still want to do the fishing leader because I think it's a good idea.

Tell me more about attaching fishing leaders to the side panels.

I have driven 1984 Magna's over 60,000 miles and just today, with strong headwinds, I had one blow off.  Luckily a friend was riding with me and saw it fly.  We went back and found it.  NOTHING broken, however, if you catch the light just right you can see some cracks now in the finish.

So, I want to make sure I don't lose them again.

Ray basically you use the fishing leader to tie onto the frame and the side cover so if it does come off it will stay with the bike.
I use PULL-PULL cables and crimps from the RC hobby shop, be glad to bring some to MOOTMag if anyone needs???

Have no idea what your pull-pull cables and crimps are.  If nothing else, remind me to look while at MM5

i guess i might ought to do mine as well i do not want to have to buy a new set of covers since mine are chrome

lragan

I  bought some  new "donuts" (AKA "grommets") which were a LOT tighter than the old ones.  Not very expensive, and I highly recommend them.

As for the fasteners, Bring 'em to Koyote Ranch, Greg

Lawrence will do, I need to order some more of the little crimps but have enough wire to take care of half the MOOT membership hehehehe.
