Looking for the guy that makes the VTX Headight extention for the 3rd gen magna's. His name is Jeff Heard. I've tried searching for him but am unable to locate. I asked Greg Cothern who he got his from and recommended Jeff. I'd like to get one for my bike as well. Anyone know how to contact him or have any info on the extention?
Chad you are looking for this guy silveradocowboy thats him!!
Thanks a bunch!
I think there are a few people on the other boards that could use them too, if he is willing to make more. I wrote him an email, waiting on a response. :)
I have a few pair in the shop for those of you interested. I still havent made it down to Greg's to get some pics taken of it installed, maybe this weekend if he isn't busy. If you need a pair send me your address or you are more than welcome to come by our place.
Chad to answer your question, the bracket moves the light forward about 1-1/2", it is enough that the back of the headlight bucket is not pushing on the wires or cables.
Here is a link in the members section... http://www.magnaownersoftexas.com/forums/index.php?topic=3347.0
this is what I see when I try to access that link:
The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.
I most definately would be interested in one. How much are they? When you say pair,do you need two to install one light? I'll PM you my address, shoot me back a price. :) Thanks!
Chad, Michael,
I have your brackets(V 2.0) packaged and ready to ship so I will get them in the mail tomorrow. I was hoping I could have version 3 made up this week but that isn't going to happen so in the mean time try these out and let me know what you think of them.
COOL! Will do - What are the differences between the two versions? anything notable? anything we should be keeping an eye out for?
V3 has a slot at the lower front mounting point to allow some adjustment whereas V2 there is none. The adjustment is probably not needed since the VTX bucket can be adjusted itself.
Got the extentions in the mail today. looks like I am going to need a set of longer bolts & nuts, as well as two more spacers in between. what did you use for the spacers? did you get two more of the stock ones? on the bracket, the curved und goes toward the bucket, right? if I turn it the other way, the hoies almost match up, and makes the other end look a little better, since it is a finished edge. Is there a set way it should go? Thanks!
Greg will have to answer on the bolts. These brackets have only been machined and deburred, they still need to be polished.
The curved part goes up and the edge with the short flat goes to the rear, maybe this pic will help...

I went to The Home & Depot and picked up a couple stainless steel allen bolts and nylon inserted safety nuts. I do not recall the size etc. I took one of the stock bolts and found one similar but slightly longer.
Did not use a spacer or such, and have had NO issues whatsoever.
Thanks for the Info guys :)
Chad,
ACE hardware carries chrome bolts and nuts.
BA
I will check there first :)
Got my own extender set from Jeff Heard aka Silveradocowboy in yesterdays mail. They are much like what I had wanted to try to fabricate myself but are far better than anything I could have made.
Thanks, Jeff!
After the two of you get them installed let me know what needs to be modified. I have the 3rd version now and will send a pair to each of you to try out also.
Here are some pics of Version 2
Note: the stock bolts won't fit with these on there-I went to a hardware store that has chrome bolts and got (4) 2" chrome allen bolts with (4) locknuts. They had a 5mm head and the nut size on the end was a 10mm. Also, It is up to your descretion, but I would also advise that you order two more spacers for the headlight so you don't overtorque the nuts and squish the two headlight bracket mounts as I started to do. :) Here are some pics:

Looks great so far, I need to test it at night and like Brian (BA) suggested, "Measure from the ground to the center of the headlight and put a piece of masking tape on your garage door at that same height. Put the bike 17 feet from the door and sit on it and see where the center of light is compared to the tape line. You want it even with the line."
I'll do this too. :)
Thanks for the pics and updates Chad. I got version 3 mailed out to you and Mike today. Look forward to hearing your comments.

Thanks for the Ver. 3 extensions, Jeff. Just got them in today's mail. Since Chad has already installed Ver. 2, I will go ahead and try these out in the next few days and report back.
got mine the other day too. thanks :) i'll try them on this week and i'll give them to Brian to test with his vtx light & sheild. hopefully they will push the light out far enough to make the sheild work with the vtx light.
i finally met with brian this weekend and gave him the vtx extentions to try on his bike in texas this weekend. one of us will report back to you on how they worked out :)
Thanks Chad
Jeff, I finally got the Version 3 extensions on today. Sorry it took so long (recovering from a nasty reaction to some prescription meds -- more on that in an upcoming thread in the Off Topic section). Installation was easy and the slot works well for vertical adjustment of the beam. Road into work this morning and have not seen any evidence that vibration is causing the assembly to slip down in the slot.
I do recommend spacers to support the original bracket so that tightening the nuts will not relax tension at the headlight bucket mounting points and vice versa.
But is sure is nice to be able to turn full right lock without straining the throttle cables and brake line! Good show! (http://s3.tinypic.com/28as5m8_th.jpg)
Hate to hear you are not feeling well, get well soon.
Thanks for the update, do you prefer one version over the other?
Do you have an accurate way to measure for the spacer? or is it a Honda stock part?

While I did not install the non-slotted version and can't comment on it, it was a piece of cake to readjust the headlight with the slotted version. The horizontal adjustment was not noticeably affected, and it took me maybe 10 seconds to get the vertical adjustment back where it had been. I had been a little concerned about the buckets riding down in the slot, but in about 40 miles of riding since installing the extensions, I can't tell that the bucket has budged.
I think that one leads to one more reason to have some spacers, to make sure the nut at the slot does not loosen up. They would not be a stock Honda P/N and I suspect that the length(s) required would not be standard. I have Monday off work, though, and plan to go to a hardware store I know that has a real hardware selection (as opposed to the paltry inventory at the local Home Depot and Lowe's stores) and will see what my options are. I would guess the spacer should be about 45-47mm long. I will probably try cutting a nylon spacer down to size and trying that first. Stay tuned!

Hey, Jeff, I was wrong about the spacers. They are not needed. What is needed is a good nut that does not back off. One of my nylon lock nuts was bad out of the bag and had nearly nothing in the way of back-off resistance. That's the first time I have ever seen a defective nut, but I guess such things are bound to happen sooner or later. The others held tight.
Anyway, I am thrilled with the extensions you gave me. Once again, Jeff, thank you very much. You are definitely a credit to MOOT!
What does the end result look like? I put a VTX light on my 95' and didn't have anyproblems. Is this just to stick the light out further?

I believe you are correct, out away from the instrument cluster.
You are correct, it moves the headlight further forward so the wires are not binding on the instrument cluster and pushing it back.
