That was an unexpected loss to the cycling community and ironic. You're right, Mianerider, about keeping a sharp eye out for all the dangers. That is one reason I like cycling so much. My mind drifts a lot in a cage, but must concentrate on the ride, BE the ride and the cycle. I'm sure we never see all the traps out there for us when we ride, but keep looking.
Ride like you want to Ride tomorrow.

I wish this was my line but read it somewhere..." When I'm riding I'm glad to be alive and when I'm done riding I'm glad to be alive"...  pretty much sums up the whole risk/reward thing...

I really like that quote and think I'll use it too. Very well put, whoever put it like that.
Ride like you want to Ride tomorrow.

Damn Yankee

In Michigan the deer are especially bad in the fall during rutting (mating) season. Wild turkeys are prevalent year around, especially in the north country.  Possum and skunk can knock a tire off course, too.

You don't see moose until you are in the far western Upper Peninsula or in Northern Ontario, Algoma District (Sault Ste Marie and surrounding area).
Just as well...these beasts may as well be a brick wall, they can total cars and do serious injury to the driver. Unless you have enough time/space for a well-placed swerve, motorcycles wouldn't have a prayer.

You're right; several years back I worked with a guy who came into work Monday morning with cuts and bandages all over his face.  Hit a moose on the interstate and all of that weight up on those spindly legs came right through the windshield on his Taurus.  He said it was like having a deli counter coming flying through your livingroom window...
