Fuel issues?

Hi folks, have an 82 v45 Magna just recently.  This bad boy is currently only running on the back 2 cyl.  I do have spark all the way around but the front 2 pipes are barely warm and engine smokes like crazy.  This appears and smells like overrich smoke.  Here is what I have done so far,  Have torn into carbs serveral times (quickly becoming an expert on carb r&r) and have found the front two cyl diaphrams torn.  Have repaired using liquid electrical tape.  I know, I know but what do you do when on a budget?  These repairs appear like they held but can't telll for sure yet.  Have removed jets and soaked carbs in cleaner and blown dry, reset float height and still have the same problem.  No. 4 spark plug is wet with gas yet no. 2 appears dry which tells me the carb diaphram repair may not have held on that one.  Has anyone run into this issue?  Is it possible I have a fuel pump that is actually forcing fuel past the needle and seats?  Dumb question, but hey I'm a newbie to Magnas.  Any help, suggestions, contacts or just plain prayers are appreciated.  I'm rapidly pulling what little hair I have left out.

Try swapping your coils to see if they are arcing on the inside. They can have fire but not enough to deliver a good spark to the plugs. If it starts running on the front cylinders you know what it is, if not check your plug wires. The bad diaphrams definitely need to be replaced when you are able to.

Have already tried swapping coil packs no change, but have not tried the wires yet.  Do you know where a guy can get diaphrams reasonably priced.  Don't want to pay dealer price if possible, have been in the parts business for 27 years and believe me I know what kind of margin they're probably getting.  If I can find aftermarket that would be special.  Also, do you know if just the rubber is replaceable or do I have to get the needle barrel with it too?  Thanx for the reply.

From what I could dig up you can just replace the diaphragm. Heres what I found

Bikebandit.com = $127.00
Service Honda.com = $85.25

I struck out finding that carb in other places.

Sorry to tell you, but the tape repair probably won't last too long. The diaphragms and slides are an assembly, and can't be bought separately. From time to time, there's a seller on eBay who lists replacements. I've bought them, and they're definitely meant for some other brand, not Honda. They are not a good fit at all, so you can save that money for something else.
