Honda was telling me that the 15% ethenol stuff was the problem.  I'd never put E85 in a bike.

From what I've read on it the problem is it breaks up all the crud that has accumulated in your fuel system and sends it on down the line... also it is a heavier or thicker fluid so jets have to be replaced to meter it correctly... not sure if injectors can be replaced but they meter it too lean if not designed for it... hence the few vehicles out there that can run duel fuel.. i have had some vehicles come in with lean codes from running the stuff.

Tenebras

I'm getting around 38-40 in my '84 V30. That's when I'm usually cruising back and forth to school at 75 or so.

When I went down to LA on the 1 at only 55-60 I managed to get into the 50's.

Does that sound about right to you guys?

Damn Yankee

Not the same generation, but I'll get the low 40's when I open up the 3G on the freeway doing 75-80 mph....and around 50 when I'm on the two-lanes doing 55-60....So it sounds about right to me .

My own guru of mechanics says another problem is that the alcohol attacks rubber components -- seals and gaskets and fuel lines, causing them to slowly disintegrate. That may be source of the "gunk" that is being "broken up." I know I have successfully ruined synthetic rubber trim on a couple of vehicles by allowing stuff with high alcohol content to come in contact with it, so I tend to believe him. That's the lasht time I'm getting into my truck without puttin' the shtopper in th' moonshine jug...*hic*...
