Collars from taking Engine guards off.

Ok, I took the engine guards off my bike tonight that are in my pic in my signature.  There were 4 bolts, 2 top and 2 bottom.  On the ones on the top, the collars aren't large enough to fill the gap between the engine and the frame now.

I'm going to order some new ones.  I cranked the bike up and it seemed to run fine, but it's so wet I couldn't take it out.  Any ideas if it will hurt the bike riding her without those collars installed, or should I wait until I get some in.

Thanks as always guys.

The part I'm referring to is #8 at this link.

Dont know if it will hurt or not, but I am not sure I would take the chance.  You might be able to find something at The Home Depot or such that will work till the proper ones come in.

Thanks Greg.  Gonna order some tonight for sure.

Btw, do the Hondaline guards get in the way of the front plugs the same as these do?  Man, it's still tough to get to the plugs, but not NEAR as bad as it was with the guard on there.

Ahh they are a pain, but if you loosen the radiator off its mounts and gently rock it out you can reach them much easier.

I agree, need to have rigid mounts and no space between frame and engine mount....
Think torque .....and plenty of it.....
and as well balanced as the V-4 is its still gonna pull and twist if not firmly mounted
besides ya dont want to have all that loose vibe...
folks might think its a Hardly Dabitsome

If they back order the parts and it will be a while before you get them let me know and I'll see about machineing some for you. Al. or Ti., it's your choice, just send me the correct measurements.

Hey Jeff, I just now read this post.  Well, they did backorder one of the parts.  Bikebandit seems to be good about that.  Or maybe it's Honda.  dunno.

Well, I measured the collar + the engine guard and it came out to be 1 1/8".  So I went down to Home Depot and found some washers ( 3/8" I think ).  With 3 stacked on top of the current collar, it measures out to be the same.

I'm sure this would probably rust like hell, but thankfully it's only temporary.  Both are tight.  The right side had just a bit of play in it at first, so I remeasured and everything checked out.  Tightened it up and everything seems snug.  Gonna give it a test ride now.

Sorry my digital camera sucks.  The bright shiney metal are the 3 washers, and right behind that is the collar.

Bikebandit was nice enough to tell me one was on backorder after they had shipped the other out.  Lovely.  =)

That should work until the proper parts come in.  It will keep things from moving and stressing anything else..

Thanks man.

Should I worry that on the right side there was just a tad bit of play?  I'm not even sure I could have fit another washer in there, but I went ahead and tightened it down anyways when the measurements checked out with the collar+engine guard.

Your probably fine, as I remember you have to "pursuade" the factory spacers to fit LoL.

Soo,

I have finally been able to ride my bike some today.  I know I've complained countless times about a vibration I get around 5300 rpm until about 5600, but it seems to be almost unnoticeable ever since I took my engine guards off.

Weird?  Maybe they weren't bolted on very tight, although they sure took some convincing to come off at first.  Either way, I'm happy.  There's still a bit of rumble at my feet that begins around 5k rpm, but this feels completely normal.

Just glad to have that damn vibration finally gone.
