Went to change stator, found oil in alternator cover. Is that ok, is oil supposed to get in there? 1985 V65 Magna

I have opened up one Honda Stator cover and it had oil in it, and I have read several other blogs about Honda's and they all state that some oil is normal...
But I will let the V65 experts chime in...

Surprised Terry didn't say, "wipe it out and there won't be any".     :D  :-)

That's pretty good! I do like the "Louder Pipes" if you have engine noises.  :D

Drill a hole and oil your chain...hmmm don't have a chain. Oil your buddies behind you.

I know I'm not being much help. I do say if it's not at the level of your crankcase oil, it should not be there and your seal is worn out. If the seal is pushed in from the outside, easy to put a new one in.

I got an answer from Dave Dodge. And, yes there is suppose to have oil in there for cooling purposes. So I'm good.

Seems like a good item for a FAQ section.. If there was one.. You know it will come up again...

Terry, I found another solution to the eliminating the engine noises.  earplugs!  LOL  Although louder exhaust is cooler.   8)

How much oil is in the there? Is it crankcase level?

No problem putting in the FAQ and having a Vintage Magna FAQ, I need more information.

If I am not mistaken which does not happen often    the stator is bathed in oil from the case and the 3rd gens are the same way

About a half cup of oil, is what DD said.

This sounds realistic Allen....I need good info to post on the FAQ, or word it in a way that saves us when someone proves us wrong.   :-o

I know the 3rd gen does as the last time at Gregs Wrench Session he asked me if there was oil in there, told him I didn't think so (I am use to these two strokes) as he undoes the cover guess what happened... :-P I quietly walked to the other side of the garage.

I came back over asked why he did that, he said you told me no oil was in there, told Greg I was kidding I could have told him oil was in there. Maybe a little additional dialog here, makes a good story though.  :P
