Belt instead of chain???

While I was changing the coolant last weekned I got to looking at the chain and sprockets and was wondering if it was possible to change to a belt.  Any one have the same thoughts or has heard of anyone trying.

Are their drawbacks to belt drives?

A company called ScootWorks supposedly had a plan to develop a belt drive kit for a Magna a few years ago but nothing ever came of it.  I have read some reviews of their kits installed on Suzuki Marauders and they varied from "Ok" to"Huge mistake" due to broken belts and bad fitting.
