New drivetrain/tranny noise

Lightning's got a new noise.
Kinda of a whine that is audible when I'm coming to a stop or running at reall low speed.  It appears to be related to the speed of the wheels and doesn't change if the clutch is in or out.  just kinda winds down as I come to a stop.  It sounds like it is coming form the right side of the engine not either of the wheels or the driveshaft/final drive assembly.

Ideas?

Suggestions?

Worn cross-shaft or cross-shaft bearing?
Hard as rock. Tough as nails. Dense as concrete.

So what's it take to fix that ?

To replace the shaft or bearing you will have to split the cases IIRC. A V45 we had made a similar noise but the bearing boss that is made into the engine case was broken allowing the bearing and shaft to move. You can remove the right hand cover, and possibly the clutch pack, to check it out.

I cut a ring with the ID to match the inner side of the outer bearing race and slightly larger than the boss in the case. I predrilled holes in the ring so that the holes I drilled and tapped into the case would line up. I'll see if I can find a pic of the fix and post it. The bike is still running 4 or 5 years later so I guess the fix worked out okay.

As soon as I can park it and start riding the 900 I'll pull the cover and look.  That's my kinda fix you did there,  I'm hoping for that as opposed to needing to crack the case open to get to the cross-shaft.
