Yes. Allen I had read that. Thanks for passing it along though.

So far my preliminary findings are that the Royal Purple Cycle-Max has improved shifting over the regular Royal Purple . I think it's quieter than it was and the 1st to 2nd shift at high rpms does not have the grindy feel that it did.

I have another issue, that I believe now may be temperature related. Now that the weather is warmer, I am getting a knock at the top of the engine where the cams are after the bike gets hot. It doesn't do it the first few minutes it starts up but it shows up after it's been ridden hard.

Everything else seems to be fine so I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just listen to some bikes a MootMag to see if I hear the same thing, or if anyone notices my knock. The only funny thing is that I didn't notice it until after I changed the oil...

Well, I've started riding with ear plugs... so it's really not an issue now. :)

Thanks. It's good to know that.  This Royal Purple sounds like some good stuff from what I've read. Granted its all their propoganda.

So Allen, do you change out your filter every 3 or 4,000 miles like RP says on their site?

Check this out I forgot to mention about the silicates but have sent him back a ?? about that....

Allen,

The RP Purple Ice  Coolant Additive works great in combination with a mixture of coolant and water at treats rates of 1 oz per quart of cooling system capacity.

I'm curious as to Honda's statement "and the manuals are
> specific about corrosion inhibitors causing corrosion in are
> engines specifically the Honda V4 engine..."

If it is a corrosion inhibitor  why would it promote corrosion?

My take on this is that Honda has a branded product that they would prefer you to use but the coolant and additives do not know to NOT work in a Honda 4 cycle water cooled engine and yet work fine in any other 4 cycle water cooled engine.

Corrosion could occur in a motor cycle if the owner chooses to run straight water and then incorrectly uses a demineralized or distilled water in the all aluminum engines.  These types of water have had the minerals stripped from them so that when you put them in straight (100% with zero coolant/ antifreeze) there is nothing to neutralize the water from stripping metal out of the engine block and radiator.

If you are wanting to run straight water, use just plain tap water or softened water with 1.5 oz of Purple Ice per quart of water added to the system.

Cheers,

David

Alright and this also about silicates form the man him self....

Silicate corrosion inhibitors tend to leave a whitish powder on the
aluminum
- you might be familiar with this if you've used the traditional
greenish
yellow antifreeze coolants which use a silicate corrosion inhibitor.

Purple Ice does not contain silicates - it uses a molybdate corrosion
inhibitor package similar to the newer organic acid technology found in
the
extended life coolants in diesel trucks and Dexcool.

David

Ok I know I am getting annoying hehehehehehehhe one more.....
This one is about motorcycle specific Royal purple

The RP 10W40 is API SL / CF-4 rated

The MaxCycle 10W40 is formulated to the older API SG service category.

The newer API gasoline categories in conventional mineral or synthetic
oils
will have slightly less anti-wear additives to meet stricter emissions
being
imposed by the US Government EPA.  This is especially evident in the
new API
SM package.  So the motorcycle oils have a slightly more robust wear
protection package.

In Royal Purple's case, due to the RP Synerlec additive technology
which
increases the oil film strength literally by a factor of 4, it is a
mute
point.

Attached is an API Service Classification guideline that may help clear
this
up.

Cheers,

David
