yeah,
1) I'd like to see that work on a car tire!!!
2) Maybe if I just left the bag on, it wouldn't take 115 psi to get the tire to seat!!!

So, he uses the bag to reduce friction between the tire and the rim -- a lubricant, if you would.  Would not some soapy water achieve the same result?

He is way too skinny to mount the car tire on my rear rim.  I needed someone about 400 pounds to stand on it...

or even a modern motorcycle tire...

When I did mine I put them in black trash bags and set them in the sun for several hours to try and soften them up.  not sure if it helped but they went on quick and easy.

Heck, just put a 16" tire on a 15" rim like I did. Easy peazy.

Of course you then have that whole "keeping air in the tire issue."  :P
I'd rather be outside than in.

Yes I may have to try this sometime.

As long as it's on a tube type tire, tall and skinny like a Harley front tire or a bicyclr I can see it working. However I don't see it working on a large stiff rear tire, if no other reason than my doubting you would ever get all the plastic bag out  in any less time or with any less work than with a little soap as Lawrence suggested.

How about lubricating the plastic bag with a flamable liquid. After getting the tire on light the bag and poof, it is gone!!!!

Next time Bob is over I will run the cam while HE does that, I'll be nice and add an extra dose for Bob!
