First Gen Rear Shocks

Hey everyone,

I finally got my '82 Magna put back together and the carbs near synchronized.  (Runs very smooth, but haven't yet put a vacuum gauge on it).  I even took it around the block.  Actually riding it made the hours I've toiled in the garage seem worth it.  Now that I've ridden it, I've found new questions to ask.

I have speed bumps in my neighborhood (the long kind that are pretty smooth).  Anyway, as the bike is coming off of the speedbump it bumps very hard in the rear of the bike.  I suspect that my rear shocks are shot.  On these first gen bikes, is it possible to rebuild rear shocks or are they simply replaced?  If they are replaced, can you buy aftermarket shocks?  If you can, does anyone have a cheap source for them.  I hate to sound like a cheapskate, but the 68k on it and it's more of a project than a total restoration.

When I had my '82 V45, I replaced the rears with Progressives through Cycle Gear for $250/pair. I got the heavy duty springs instead if reg. springs.  Worked great.

Got mine from Murph's for $220.00. I went HD and love them. Great for riding two up.

I replaced mine with shorter progressives.  Which means I have the originals available if you are interested in them.  they are off an 84, but I think the lengths are the same.  I MAY have a pair of 82's but they will be in bad shape.  Have to go out and check.
