Loud noise 'squawwk' sound at start-up

I'm getting a loud noise, sounds like 'squawwwk' when I start the bike (83 V65 Magna).  No problem once it starts, and I've not had a problem (yet) getting it started.  Seems worse when it's cold (or as cold as it gets down here in central Tx in July).

I'm guessing it's a problem with the starter - anyone seen this, or have information on how to check/replace?  Thanks,
