Has anyone installed a California carb on a bike (Magna V65 VF1100C) instead of the 49 state version carb?  If so, do you have any suggestions on what I can expect?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure I understand your question, if you are replacing a Cali with another Cali, you would just put the hoses back where the other ones were.

why would you want to do that?  it will slightly lower your performance, from what I am told. Maybe not enough to really notice.  I took my Cali carbs off and put on 49 state version, mine really came to life after that.  but my Cali ones were busted anyhow.  So, other than that, just plug off the 4 (1 each carb) extra vacuum lines with a rubber cap of some sort.  if you don't mind tacky just cut a short piece of the vacuum line and put a little silicone in one end and stick a tight fitting bolt in that end.  let it dry then put the hose on the carb.  Also be sure you check the jet sizes in both.  Cali will likely be smaller.

Your performance gain most likely came from replacing bad carbs with good ones. There is no noticeable performance difference between CA carbs and the 49-state version.

Thanks for the comments so far.
From what I can tell, the only outer difference that I can see is one extra vaccum hose on the top of the carb.  As for the insides, according to the Clymer manual everything is the same with the exception of the Pilot screw turns.  The cali carb pilot screw turn is 1/4 turn different than that of the 49 state version.  Now that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject.  What do you guys think?

I just took my cali carbs off of my 86 V65.  I'm certainly glad to be rid of the canister at the bottom between the #2 and #4 exhaust as it was unsightly and made it nearly impossible to get to the exhaust flange bolts.  There is a little flying saucer on either side of the bike, one under the left box beside the gas tank and one just behind the thermostat housing on the right.  The vacuum lines were very specific coming out of these diaphragms into the carbs, tank vent and canister.  My Aux tank has the diagram printed on the side of it.  If you would like a pic of it i can upload it to the forum, but it is the same diagram you can find on bikebandit.com and the Honda shop manual.  The major difference other than the charcoal canister at the bottom of the bike and the spaghetti of vacuum lines hanging all over the place is the plastic air tubes that join each carb together.  The Cali version has input nipples on every tube and the non Cali version just has straight tubes with no inputs.  If you were using Cali carbs on a non-cali set up you would just have to plug those inputs to the air tubes on the carbs and plug the #3 vacuum port on the intake boot to the cylinder.  I was told the jets were the same size, but did not verify that when I swapped the carbs.
