I'm new to street Bikes and  I just picked up a 1984 Magna 700c , and the rear tire is getting wore and I'm looking for a replacement at a average Cost,

Does anyone have any Suggestions ??

Dunlap makes some good tires for the money but I don't know what size is stock for your bike I  am not a car tire fan, bike tires have curves for a reason...

Car tires work VERY VERY well on a bike in the corners, however with that said I still run bike tires.  Not sure I would put a car tire on a 1st gen Magna, just my opinion.

Metzeler tires are quite nice on all magna's as well as Avon..

I had a set of Pirelli Sport Demons on my old V45, they ride nice, stick well in the turns, and got decent mileage out of them. When I sold the bike, the rear had 10k on it, was about done, the front still looked like new.  Definitely recommend them. Little pricy, but I'd rather spend the extra $50 bucks or so since they're the only thing connecting me to the road.  When I hit a blind decreasing radius turn, or have to make a panic stop, I'd like to know that it's not the cheap tires that are keeping me from avoiding disaster.  I've heard about enough people going down because their tires were the weak link.  Heck, there's a series of pics going around right now of a guy who went dark side on a Vrod and trys to ride the dragon.  He goes in hot, tries to lean it hard to make the turn, gets up on the side ridge of the car tire (since there's no rounded side to ride on), then it just slides out, he tries to ride it out while sliding and highsides it. Just not worth it to save a few bucks IMHO.

I don't buy that there's less grip on the edge of the car tire. I"ve got a Bridgstone Potenza G109 on my Valkyrie, and I've got better grip, even on the edge than I did with the Dunlop that came with it. If you get down behind the bike and watch the tire as I lean the bike over, you can see I still have a wider contact patch with the CT than I did withe the MCT. There are thousands of hours of video with cameras mounted under bikes with car tires on youtube that show the same thing. I can't find the photos now, but I've even seen where folks laid down water and ran through it leaving tire prints and again discovered that the cat tire on edge has a wider contact patch than the MC tires they were testing. (Thinking back, it might have been in one of the videos.)
That being said, there are tires and there are tires. If the V-rod guy has some profile that has absolutely no edge, then he bought for looks not stability. And I doubt he saved any money. Another factor I hadn't considered is the tire compound. One of the guys on the VRCC, well know for his Dragon exploits, runs dark side. He warned about going dark with what he called the, "Granny's Oldsmobile, hard as a cue ball rubber." I've done no research on that subject so have no further comment on it. I got luck with my Potenza. I'll never go back, but will probably read up on rubber compounds before buying the next one.

Well after reading some Dark Side Info  I think I would like to try one,  but my original tire size is 130/90-16 and I don't think I will find anything close enough to try it  :-(

Good luck with the darkside, not my personal choice. Let us know how it goes if you find something that fits.
