Rear Turn Signals do not light up...

This is one of the stranger troubleshooting issues I have run into with a motorcycle.

Recently I noticed my back left turn signal on my 98 Magna was not lighting up. Oddly enough when I used the turn signal switch it would flash. A couple of days later the rear right turn signal stopped lighting up as well.

Now at this point both rear turn signals do not light up when the bike is tarted but they both will flash/blink when the turn signal switch is used.


I have changed the fuses and bulbs but no luck yet. Also did a search on the forum.

Any ideas?

The rear lights do not have a running light function like the front blinkers do... The should only light when the turn signal switch is activated..
The front bulbs are double element bulbs, the rear are single element bulbs...

Do you know if the running light function applies to the 3rd Gen Magnas? 

The reason I ask is when I initally purchased this bike about 18 months ago both of the rear turn signals stayed lit and would flash when the switch was turned. Now only recently have the stopped lighting up unless the switch was turned.

Then someone put front blinkers on the rear...
The wiring is under the seat, you will have to trace it back...
I was speaking about a gen 3, as that is all I know about...
Hopefully when the did the swap, they put on red lenses, otherwise it is illegal in some states..

I'll check my bike and trace the wiring. I'm sure the answer lies in checking things out below the seat.

Thanks for that! They keyword run turn brake controller is the magic bullet. I was doing searches under some differnt keyword phrases that didnt get hits at 1st.
