Too much play in throttle

Sounds like one of th cables broke pop the assembly apart at the bars and disconnect them off the throttle handle and see if one of the pulls out the casing i had an old goldwing do the same thing never hurts to check good luck!

Indeed, one of the cables *did* break.  I'm pretty sure it was the deccelleration cable, so the spring on the trottle assembly was performing all the work while I rode it home, after the cable breakage.  You can see some photos here.

It ended up being a win-win for everybody. The bike got fixed, Brandon got some hands on experience and I got to sharpen my skills on carb work I hadn't done in awhile.

The other nice thing was this job got done on the cheap. Much more labor than parts.
