For $20 you can run your Magna on the drag strip for as many runs as they can work you in.

A friend of mine and I have been wanting to take vehicles to an open drag racing night where you can "run what you brung".

Who:
Any MOOT members, friends, and family.

What

  • Your Magna
  • Some "lesser" motorcycle, if you prefer  ;)
  • Your cage

When
Friday night, March 21th

Why
This is a 1/8 Mile drag strip

We decided to try the 1/8 mile because:

How much?

  • $20 to pass the tech inspection and let you run.
  • I'm told how much you get to run depends upon the number of people there that evening.

What gear do you need?

  • Helmet (no specific types mentioned but you probably want a full face)
  • Jacket (textiles are OK, leather not required)
  • Gloves (textiles are OK, leather not required)
  • Shoes that go over the ankles. (do not have to be motorcycle specific)

What does my bike need?

  • No oil, coolant, or fluid leaks of any kind
  • Be in good working order

So, are you going to run yours and post up times?

Only if other MOOTsters shows up. ;)

just kidding

I may be slow as heck but I'll post 'em. I have no idea what to expect.

Had a scheduling conflict. We had to change the date to Friday the 21st.

I hope to see some Magnas out there tonight. Unfortunately mine is "on the bench" at the moment. It wasn't running right and when I checked the carbs they were pretty messed up and I didn't have time to correct the problem. So to make it easy on myself I just loaded up the Ninja 250. Look for me in yellow and black leathers and an old school blue Ninja 250.

Well a good time was had by all that showed up. There were a fair bit of motorcycles and plenty of cars.

Can't wait to take the Magna to the 1/4 mile strip.

I ran my Ninja 250 which was the slowest thing out there... Well maybe not slower than some of the cars. LOL. But it was definitely the smallest bike by far.  I just accepted that I wasn't going to be beating anyone and focused on launching, the lights, etc. I did three runs and shaved about 3 tenths off on each run. I ended up running right at 10.0 flat when the bike should be able to run in the 9s.

The main thing was that I got familiar with whole process and even though they never consistently gave me the right light tree I still managed to do OK. I feel confident enough that I'll just take the Magna to a 1/4 mile track next time and skip the 1/8. But this was a good experience.

Unless you do this on a regular basis for many years you cannot be expected to have great runs, at least on a consistent basis, maybe lucky ones. Sounds like you had good runs though.

I actually took the Magna to a 1/4 mile track about two weeks ago. I got in 9 runs and pulled 12.9s near the end of the night.

Not too bad considering I'm running my backup carbs which are jetted a little rich since I'm not running aftermarket exhaust.

We definitely need to get some Mootsters out for this event.

Running 12.9 is great considering you don't do this all the time.
