Brake light went nuts

Changed the bulb for the brake light and now it stays on like I'm hitting the brakes. Disconnected switches and no change. Anyone have any ideas?

Took out the fuse and it goes out completely.

I had a similar problem when my rear brake adjustment switch went out. No matter how I adjusted it, the brake light would stay on all the time. If I jiggled the switch linkage by hand the brake light would go back out. I bought a replacement for about $8 from hondaparts-direct.com.

If I understand correctly though, you disconnected the switch and the light still stayed on?  I don't know if that's the rear brake switch then.

Try the wire connections under the seat, if you have a light tester you can check one at a time until you find where the power is coming from, trace the wire from the brake light contact in the bulb socket back to the plug under the seat disconnect it, if both filaments are still on you may have a bad socket or socket connection. Good luck.

Thanks guys I'll try those tomorrow. I'll let you know what I fine.

Thanks guys for your help.

My son helped me (he's better at electrical than me) looked at everything suggested and found the rear brake switch was bad. Need to order one.

People here are great.

Ah. That's exactly the problem I had. The switches are cheap at hondparts-direct.com but generally if you're buying one item the shipping makes it cost almost as much as the dealership. So you might want to call Hondaparts-direct and see how much shipping would be.

Glad you got it figured out.

Sometimes you can clean the switch thoroughly and it is still good.  Might buy you some more time before replacement.
