What is this for

As I get older, I remember less. I can not remember if there was ever anything attached here on the left side right in front of the gas tank.  Am I missing something?

plastic triangular cover plate retaining nut..

So I appear to be missing a plastic cover that hides some wiring etc.  Thanks
