can the oil seal behind the gear indicator switch be taken out from the outside ?

Look at a parts diagram might give you a idea if it can.

Pending if the seal is large enough and there is no lip to hold the seal in you can drill a small hole on both sides and put a screw in the holes to pull the seal out. Be careful not to mar whatever the part the seal is up against.
