Well guys I finally got an engine for the ole girl !!!

I was thinking about having a wrench session for those here in the Houston/Katy area. If you would like to shoot the bull and do a little wrenching let me know. Of course I will provide all the food and drink.

I guess I will see what a good day is for everyone and see if we can work somthing out.

Thanks,
Jeff

I think I can help February 17th or 24th. The first two weekends in March I will not be able to. February 10th I'm going to the Supercross at Reliant.

Most weekends are free for me.  The only two I am booked right now is the 10'th and March 3rd.  Other than that I am free.  Just let me know when to be there.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies,

What about Sunday after moto? Is that too early? I'm pretty much open for anything. Or mabye that next weekend, the 17th?

What do ya think?

Jeff

You're talking about Sunday the 11th? Next weekend? I think I can do that. Any tools you need us to bring along? An Air ratchet and impact wrench might be handy and speed things up on the disassembly.

Kerry, are you out the whole weekend of the 10th or just that Saturday?

I actually already have her apart and hope to have the carbs pulled b4 superbowl. Those things just don't want to come out of the boots. I've been yanking on those things all morning.

But anyway, once the carbs are pulled we just need to unhook the hoses, and a few wires and we're ready to pull her out. Man that thing is heavy.

But we might need them to put her back together, so your more than welcome to bring anything you want.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well I will be on the boat but I would sure put as much stuff on the engine as you can saves a lot of work after mostly the carbs try a hairdryer to soften the boots but it will still be a bear hehehehehehehe

I should be free on Sunday.  I just have plans for friday night and won't be much good for anything on saturday.

Do you need me to bring anything?  I have a good set of 1/2" drive mettric sockets and a hand impact driver.

Jeff-n-Katy

Anything that will make it easier, bring it on. :D

So I guess Sunday the 11th it is?

Do you guys care what time? Anythings good with me.

I will bring a few handy items:
1. Ratcheting metric wrenches
2. Carb sync gauges and skewdriver

Here's a list of items that I think we might need, so I'll throw these out there:
1. Do you have a good ratcheting torque wrench?
2. Good assorment of screwdrivers? (This one is for Allen.)
3. Needle nose pliers of a few different sizes for hooking up any intricate vacuum line clamps.
4. Metric tap and die set in case we need to chase the threads on anything? Or better yet, a true thread chasing kit. They clean up threads without removing metal. (I don't have either but I've neede them from time to time.)
5. Jack stands or something to stabilize the bike?

I know that my motorcycle jack lifts right under the center of the bike so it gets in the way if I have to do a lot of work ON the engine. I prefer my pit bull stand because it will lift the back wheel about two inches and stay out of my way. Another technique I have recently employed is hanging to rachet straps from the ceiling of my garage on eye bolts. I then hook them to the engine guards or handlebars and snug them up just enough so that the bike is perfectly balanced. I still use a jack or a pit bull stand but the straps make sure my bike never tips either way.

As far as a time. 9:00 is realistic for me. :D Anything else earlier... Well it's just a joke. ;)

I will bring along a jack stand.  It worked good for the V45 and V30.

I don't know if the skewdriver will work on the first gen but I will bring the carb sync driver I have used...7mm socket and 1/4 in adaptor

Jeff-n-Katy

Wow!! this all sound great. I wish I had all these tools in the stable. You guys don't @#$% around.

As far as the list, I do not have a torque wrench.
Most of the stuff I have is basic, but I've pretty much got her all stripped down with what I have. So putting her back together should be easier with the stuff ya'll can bring.

The time has been set at 10:00am.

You can find my info in the members only section.

Thanks again for all the help, if you have any ?'s feel free to call also or catch me on the board.

Thanks,
Jeff
