V65 Magna Oil Level?

You guys that ride a V65 Magna help me out.  I have been about 2700 since the last oil change on the bike.  I pulled it in the shop today to check the oil level.  I have been riding it back and forth to work.  Very short trip.  I was checking the oil level on level ground WITHOUT screwing the oil dipstick back in.  I thought I had read that somewhere.  Anyway, not hardly any oil on the stick.  Should I start the bike and then let it run and kill it and check it?  It had not been started since I arrived at work this am.  I am not leaking any oil and I just don't want to think I am using some.  Any ideas or facts about how it should be done?

Taz, fire the bike up, on level ground, let it run to about 2-3 bars and kill the engine.  Let it sit for 4-5 minutes and check the oil level without screwing the dip stick back in.

That should show you the true oil level.

Marc, can you do me a favor?  Can you send an email to me at bradphillips1@yahoo.com and show me a photo of the dipstick out of your V65?  I would like to see you indicate which mark on the stick is the FULL line.  I just want to make sure I am starting out with the correct amount of oil in it when I change it.  Thanks for your help.
