Can I make this a 1" mount?

From the ebay windshield thread....

JC Whitney sent me 7/8" clamps instead of 1" clamps...  Will not be able to get them before Tuesday for MootMag.

So can I grind out 1/16" on each side to make it fit a 1" bar without comprimising it's strength?  I'm not sure what the 1" mounts look like, if they're stronger or thicker in any way...

If these are too small, I have larger res versions available...

Maybe you could flare the edges or grind it out a little maybe get some longer bolts to take up the slack!!!!

If it was their screw-up, you should demand that they next-day ship you the correct ones!

I'm so unimpressed by those guys - I had one of their online chat guys tell me unequivocally that they did not carry the Dunlop K555F (nor any tire in 120/80/17)   As I was thanking him for his time, I found the damn tire myself on their site!  I pasted him the item number and he was like "nice catch!".  Idiots!

I doubt grinding out 1/16 will do much to compromise strength, but I'd look at it as a short term fix only personally...  good luck.

Well...the screw up may have been theirs, but it could also have been Nat. Cycles.

They have bags of hardware in the kit, each is numberd.  Bag 77, which I had, was supposed to have 1" clamps in it, but it had 7/8".  So...nat cycle had the wrong parts in the bag.

I asked JC Whitney to have Nat Cycle drop ship me the right clamps overnight, she said they would, but they're backordered from the factory.  I'm going to call nat cycle tomorrow and verify that, maybe they'll step up and get me the right clamps.  We'll see...

JC Whitney also offered to overnight me an entire new windshield kit and cover shipping, but they they found out they were out of stock.

I'm not grinding on anything until tomorrow night when I find out what nat cycle tells me, and if Moto liberty can get me the right kit.

Is that really plastic? Does not seem like something I would want to use on my bike. While it may be strong enough while just riding what happens if your bike goes down? Looks to me like the brass threaded doohickey would tear out of the plastic from the impact. Then you end up with a dented tank and a non ridable bike.

I did not read well before posting. I se now that it is part of the winshield bracketry. Looked like a handlebar clamp.

They are injected nylonish something or another stuff, LoL, they are quite strong.  Seems like they may have some sort of fiber or such in them as well.

Greg, thanks for the mounts!

Do you know or undertand how the L-Bracket is tightened in those clamps?  I can't figure it out...feeling stupid...

Ah, never mind, I see how from Jerry Turner's pics.  Good to go!
