It was  just my missunderstanding . It is so easy to read someone's comment out of context. This is one of the nicest bunch of folks you'll ever meet and I shouldn't have been so quick to reply (the last reply, that is) Hope I haven't offended a fellow welder.

That's a nice looking gate 8) we'll have to get together and swap lies, I mean stories some times. :)  I'm retired ,so I just piddle anymore..

Thanks! That was the first gate project I've done.

I was told 2 things:

1. I charged too little. The cost of the square tubing and having the top piece rolled came to $251. I charged my customer that plus another $251 for me to weld it together for him. I was told I should have charged a minimum of $1000. I'm glad I've got a day job!

2. The hinges were placed bad. I was told they should have been at the very top and very bottom for the most strength.

Oh well. Live and learn!

I know what you mean ,the hardest part of having a welding business is making a profit.. The rest is fun!
