chain replacement

I went to the metric shop and had them replace my chain instead of buying the $100 rivet tool.
It turned out that cyclegear's listing for a replacement chain was off by two links, 530X118 is the correct size. Even the metric shop had one listing in his book but another reference had the shorter one. It was noticed only because the chain was too long to adjust correctly. No big deal, they just took off a couple of links.
I learned a good way to replace the chain: grind off the link on the old chain, connect the new chain to the old chain with the link and thread it through the front sprocket without taking off the gear cover! Take off the old chain and link up the new one and adjust.
