Local Harley shop quoted me

$129/tire.

The total if i take it in, and they do them...$400.

If I take tires off myself and bring them in.  Just $129 x 2 = $258.

How does this sound?

Average?  Expensive?

Local Harley shop was recommend to me.  I don't see prices changing much in my local area.  I should call around to everything in a 100 mile square radius I guess.

Just figure mileage and time in that.

IMO the $129 for the tire and mounting the tire on the rim is reasonable.  After having mounted a set, though I have the "manual" tire mounting rig, it was easy and I think could be done without the rig.  At least on my rims/tires.

This summer I had to replace mine in colorado it was 205, but of course when they saw the Texas license plates they knew they had me over a barrel.

Up here in Michigan its 30 dollars a tire if the rims are off the bike, and thats at a honda dealership. Mabey get away from Harley dealers.

Works out about the same.  Tire costs about $100 with another $30 to mount, $130.

In General I stay away from dealers especially Harley Dealers. Their Prices tend to be TOO HIGH.

I'm with Dan, looks pretty fair for both tire prices, mounting and all at one stop.

i just had my tires replaced. I had already purchased the tires from a friend that owns a local part shop so I had those in hand. I didn't want to fuss with anything since my magna is my only ride (mrs has the family car) so I got quotes to take it in and then pick it up again later that day.

Quotes for me ranged from $35/wheel to $60/wheel (Honda dealership). That's taking the old tire off, put new one on, balance and then tighten chain if necessary. I'm in Orange County, CA so not sure if that helps but perhaps it's good to know what's being charged in other places in the country for reference. The $35 bloke had bad reviews on google and I found a $45/wheel place that had good reviews.

I just paid $120 for a new K555 (150) and $40 to put it on at Global Motorsports in North Houston.  They cleaned my chain, sprockets and relubed everything and balanced the tire.  If you buy the tire from them and bring in the rim, they'll install and balance for $20.

Cycle Gear in N Austin offers the same deal -- $20 to mount and balance if you buy it from them and bring in the wheel.

One of the local shops I have used here in Dallas charges $30 if you bring in the tire/wheel without the bike..

Was reading my Clymer manual so I could start taking off my front and rear tires.

It mentioned the splines (I don't know what they are), and lubricating them.

What are the splines?

What lubricant should I use?

I have shaft drive NOT chain drive.

Thanks

You will clearly see the splines when you pull the rear off.  they are on the rear only.

Hi-temp grease is my suggestion.  Such as a good bearing grease.
