That should be nothing more than a chrome cap that will pop off with a small screwdriver, below you will locate the allen head screw.

In the second pic (last set of pics) you need to remove the chrome cap on the left side, the cap just snaps into an allen head bolt(pinch bolt). I use a knife and slide it in between the bottom of the cap and the top of the bolt and pry up. Once you get the cap off loosen the pinch bolt. The clicking you are hearing is the axle bolt threads pushing back on the the threads in the fork.

Gonna try tonight.  Hope I haven't caused any damage...besides the levering, I didn't try to force the axle out.

Don't use anything but the Moly paste that Jim recommended above.  It really stays in place (if you don't use too much) and it is what Honda recommends.

Honda direct line has it for $8.21 and free shipping: http://www.hondadirectlineofshadyside.com/stores/byBrand.asp?brd=Honda+Oils+%26+Chemicals&str=7&ID=829709075

How do you go about coating the splines?  Do I just lather it on there with my fingers?

How much?  Enough that it doesn't drip?

Quite clueless.

Thanks.

Found this website.

Please explain to me:

"At the first tire change, you should also remove the rear drive system from the swing arm and clean and lubricate the splines on the drive shaft. After the first time, this should be done about every 50,000 miles or so. "

Remove the rear drive system?

I'll take a pic of what I have to work with.  I'm not sure how to remove rear drive system?

Thanks.

I think you also need to replace some O-rings that hold the spline lube in place. I'm not sure on yours but on my ST1100 there are 3 of them. Otherwise that lube leaves the hub pretty quickly.

Ok guys.

I put both tires back on myself.  Tried to follow all the reverse steps...and everything seemed to be going well.  I used the hi-temp grease too on the shaft.

The only two problems I have...and you guys are going to all laugh HARD ABOUT IT...

1) When I reconnected the speedo to the sensor...its not reading.  I don't know if I didn't screw it into the wheel correctly or its not getting feedback on connector.  SO NO SPEEDOMETER FOR RIGHT NOW!

2) My rear brake ...drum brake...there is a steel connector that feeds from the brake to the bike frame.  I can't figure out how it went on.  It has a bolt, a washer, and a hex nut.  I'll take pictures later.

I took the bike for a short ride up and down my street...and nothing seems to be making any noise or wobbling.

What can I check for?

Thx.

Dan

For the front wheel, I tried in vain tonight to connect and reconnect the speedo cable to the front wheel.  To no avail, it would not read odometer or speedometer.  I tried to push it in harder while screwing the allen head into place.

Could it be possible the I installed the hub sensor wrong on the wheel?  I noticed there were two notches that were on the hub sensor, and I tried to align it with the place on wheel as I slid the front axle into the wheel.

I never took the speedo cable off of the speedo assembly so I don't see why that would be the problem.

-----------------------------------

On the rear wheel issue,

I'm not sure how to install the rear drum brake back onto the frame in the way it is supposed to be secured.  As you can see in the two pics, there is a washer, a bolt, a nut...i'm not sure how to properly secure it.  I can move it if I push on it with my thumb....in the third picture above, that space b/w the screw and the rear drum and the frame connector piece does not seem right.

On the rear brake.... turn the bolt around, put it in from the back side, washer, nut, and cotter pin go on the outside.

Speedo assy(at the hub)...  It will probably be easiest to take the front wheel off(or slightly forward) and remove the speedo assy so you can align and assemble the cable to the speedo assy again. When you get that together put the speedo assy back in the wheel making sure the inner tabs are not be mashed by the speedo assy tabs also. If that doesn't make sense call me.

I don't think I have a cotter pin for it.

I will reverse it today... thanks.

I'll try to take off the front wheel today, and do what you suggested.

Thanks.

Cotter pins are real cheap you should be able to get one at any hardware or auto parts store.

just want to say thanks to Jeff Heard for helping me with the rear wheel.

That problem is resolved.

Still working speedo...

grrr...

I spent all winter riding, and all summer sitting!!!

CAN U BELIEVE THAT?

Dan, can you get the front wheel off the ground and spin it?  See if you can see the little tab inside the speedo drive unit turning.  My guess is that you don't have the cable in right.  It took me a couple tries when it was here at my house to get it in there properly.  If the little tab is turning inside the drive unit then you should be alright on the front wheel, just disconnect the cable and come to my place and we'll figure it out again.

You are welcome Dan, holler at me if you need any more help.
