Hey Thanks! My wife was trying to tell me how to do it, and I thought she learned a new language while I was out in the garage! LOL!I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Back on the orginal reason for this post.  Is it possible that it could be rocker arm/tappet noise?  I am thinking if it had a lack of oil problem and wore down the cam lobes it would get the rockers out of adustment and start to tap/clatter.  this would seem to go away under revs.  My theory only.

Magnamonkey

That was a concern at first, but the noise is coming directly from the cover right where the clutch basket is.Both bikes have the exact same noise from the exact place. One just a little louder than the other. The bike that makes the louder noise has less miles on it(36,783)and the noise completely goes away when you pull the clutch lever.Let it out,and it will go away.pull it again and it might come back, might not. When the bike is good and warm 3 or 4 bars on the gauge, its gone until the bike cools down again.I still can't convince the owner to go buy the good oil for them.I've thought about doing it myself just so I could prove a point. If I go spend $40.00 bucks on a couple of gallons of oil for someone elses bike, because they are to hard headed to do it themselves I'll NEVER hear the end of it!!!The way she see's it and I quote her word for word..."if he is willing to tear up an engine to save a few dollars then he deserves what he gets!" :D

Sorry guys,I didn't mean to hijack my own post! When I get the new picture of the barn bikes I'll post them elsewhere.

So, one has to decide -- is the knowledge worth $40?? :???:  Tough call.  I have a powerful curiosity...but I'm not THAT curious!

I'm pretty darn curious,I just don't want to get yelled at.From my wife or the owner of the bikes. Also if one of his bikes does actually thrash sometime after they leave this garage, I don't want fingers pointing at me!

I don't know :-? if I were getting an 83 V-65 out of the deal I might just dig up the $40.00 my self .. Do you get the 83 whether you fix the 84 or not?

That's where it gets kind difficult for me.The deal was to get two 84 Magna's,One 86 honda aero scooter,One 1987 VFR400R,And One 69 Trail 90 running and ready to sell. The agreement was for carb cleaning, tune ups and minor work to them.Just the normal stuff after 10 years of storage. He told me none of the bikes would need anything more than carbs cleaned. So here we go...Ive already done the work on the bikes we agreed on, plus two more that he has already sold that was not part of the original deal. The magnas are ready to go except for the noises and turn signal stems all around. He isn't really concerned with the noises.Or the turn signal stems. So my deal is basically done. Now I'm stuck with these bikes in my garage.I push them out in the morning ,and put a for sale sign by them, and put them up in the evening.I have them on Craigslist. And in the local papers.I've hinted to him that he needs to take them home because I need the room. All I got was that he did not have room.He wants $3250 for the magnas(each) and $1250 for the Trail 90.All the others are sold and gone.Me selling the bikes was not part of the deal.Just to get them running.I'm afraid to tick him off at this point, because I want the title to the 83.I still have to pay $1500 for the 83.He took over $1000 off of the asking price for the work to the other bikes.I'm hoping with the extra I'm doing he will take it off the price as well.I'm disabled and this is the only way I could afford my dream bike.

Sounds like you've held up your end of the bargain.. good luck!!

$3250?!?  Where are you selling them?  Down here I am seeing very clean ones for around $2700.

Magnamonkey

Yeah, I know! I keep trying to convince the guy that they won't bring that kind of money. He won't listen. They are in Lubbock, and it looks like they will be in my garage for awhile unless he drops his price.I keep telling him he needs to replace the turn signal stems and hr brought me a bottle of glue!LOL!! The guy just doesn't get it.He is a real nice guy he just loves his money!

TLRam1

I here ya but will he still be a nice guy when you tell him he needs to take his bikes and sell them himself and you would like the title to commence the original deal?

Also you are willing to sell his bikes on a commission basis or you keep anything over a certain amount, if you so desire. If they don't sell within 2 weeks the price is dropped X dollars. I would not run anymore adds and  tell him I agreed to repair but didn't agree to sell but willing to make a deal to do so. If he wants too high of  a price, politely decline. If he ask why, explain you can't sell them for that.

Not to dog your friend, could be nice because he doesn't want to lose your free services.

Of course I only know one side of it.  :-?

I have watched some trail 90's and 1250.00 is on the higher side unless it's in great shape cosmetically and mechanically. If not, it takes many dollars to bring em back. Agree with what's been said on the Magna's also.

Keep us posted, Good luck!

The 1969 trail 90 is a real nice bike and it should bring the $1250.It has 567 original miles and all it needs is fork seals and boots, which after over six months of  talking I finally convinced him to buy if he had any chance of selling it for the $1250.At first he wanted $950.00 with out a carb or the seals and boots.I found a carb and got it running and the price shot up to the $1250 it is at now.I'm afraid to detail it out he'll want $5000.00 for it!! LOL!!!
I've thought about asking how all the extra work I'm doing is going to affect the final price of the 83,but He is supposed to bring it back over here to get me started working on it and he kinda keeps stalling.I think I'll wait until it is back in the garage before I say anything.

In my humble opinion, he will the bikes for a while at those prices...
