QuoteI'd part with for oh, lets say half price

Is that the ones with the turn downs? And is that half the price you give, or half the price of new ? :D :D :D

You ain't touching my turn downs!   Half of new of course!   Seriously though, you wouldn't want my spare ones.  I have three (I can't even remember how I ended up with an odd pipe) but at least two of them have serious road rash on the header pipes from getting a little deep in the turns while I was still "learning".  Did you know you can put a Valk down hard enough on the engine guard in a turn to unload the front suspension and still not low-side?

Is that what happened to Greg in Georgetown?  He apparently wiped the road with his pants leg, but didn't actually go down, from what I hear.

And Charles, it was an oil slick that did it to him -- not an aggressive lean in a turn.  Maybe you could keep it upright through an oil slick on an off ramp, but I doubt I could.  I have already demonstrated my skill in this regard in a slick water crossing over a small creek.

Couple of factoids : Greg C hit a long patch of oil across the center stripe while making a moderate lean left turn exit from hi-way off ramp across a 4 lane road. The oil slick was clear and unseeable until viewed from the far side, and oil on paint is especially frictionless. He unfortunately hit it just right to kick the rear out from under while in a slow speed turn.
The  beauty of the Valk is that it has low profile yet sturdy engine guards surrounding the front of the flat 6 engine casing. And on the Tourer/IS variants there are nice little guards tucked up under the rear hard-bags. These front and rear guards absolutely minimize damage in slides or falls. These guards are tough and have saved my $$ on an occasion.

Sorry, friend, I didn't mean to chastise.  None of us intend to go down, it just happens.  The reason I mentioned Greg is that I consider him among the best of riders, and, I suppose, it salves my wounded ego a bit to know that he slides, too, under the right wrong circumstances.

YEP oil will put on the engine/bag guards EVERYTIME!  LoL.  And will do it so fast ya wont know why your sliding!

I was very lucky that the it was soft enough to not let the fairing/trunk/bags etc hit the pavement.  You can lay a Valk over in the grass etc and it will not completely lay horizontal, it will hold about a 30-35 degree angle, which I must say, helps a lot in the rash department!!!

Thanks for the kind and gracious words Lawrence, much appreciated, however I see myself as still developing my riding skills EACH and EVERYTIME I ride....

could sound a little sharp. When I read Curtis' post It never entered my my mind he might be talking accidental, just figured it was another one of his famous peg scrapping curves, and I knew I wouldn't be trying one of those. I changed my post cause I didn't want to sound like I thought laying one down could never happen to me. It already has, but it wasn't oil it was pea gravel in a paved intersection. Again sorry if my reply sounded curt .

No, that part was on purpose .............over-cooking the curve was the accidental part, but by then then your options are limited: 1. brake and risk a high-side, 2. run off the paved surface or 3. lean some more ........that's not enough, more ...............a little more .............more!!!  Whew, made it!

QuoteWhew, made it!

That is kinda how I feel about being 59 8). Don't get the idea that I've spent my whole life in a rocking chair just because I don't scrap the pegs in the curves! I've pushed the limits more than a few times in my past life..Some I can even talk about in public :D.

Yeah Jimmie every time I get something nice, Bob always up stages me :D :D. Actually our wives are the reason we got new bikes, Bob got his Rocket because his wife said He deserved a Rocket, and I got my Valk because my wife said She deserved the Magna :D :D :D..

My wife would be tickled to death if I never threw a leg over another bike.  Of course, looking at my assortment of scars I can see her point ...... but I have been a good boy since my last "excursion"

Same here, but she is pretty understanding about my "need" to ride.
