Question about tires

the tires on my 3rd generation Magna need to be replace soon.  Can any one help me to figure out what is the maximum size of tires that I can put on the stock wheel?  I'd like to know the option before shopping for tires.  Thanks

I believe a 150 is the widest you can go with with the stock brake stay.. if you space out the brake stay or go with the cylcistic brakestay you can go 170.

I run 170/80-15 Kenda Kruz on the rear with the indent in the brakestay mod, and 120/90-17 Dunlop on the front (see Magna in sig) it requires a little modifying under the front fender to clear, but I really like the look and it helps handle road grooves.

Sure, mark your brake stay where it's cloest to the tire, remove it lay it on a flat service and flatten or dent in the inside of the brakestay enough to clear the tire. It won't take much, won't hurt the brakestay and won't be visible. The aluminum brakestay is a nice looking addition and works great but is not absolutely nesscessary. Not sure but it may be in the tips and tricks section of the Moot website.

Get the brakestay rod very good investment they have supported our group so much and it will clear the biggest tire we can put on our Magnas

What did you do to the front to take the bigger tire?  I believe Chris went with a wider tire and it rubbed on the fender a little.

The 170/80 is the widest tire, but it is also monsterously tall to my eye so that it looks out of place on the 3rd Gen Magna.  To me the widest tire that looks like it "fits" the bike is the 180/70.  Also for some reason the Metzeler tires run narrower per given size compared to other brands so you should take that into account.

It does rub a little on the sides not enough to hurt the tire or the fender but enough you can hear it, so I took the fender off and took a little off the insde of the fender with my 4&1/2" grinder.

I didn't think of that !! Tapeing a file to the side of the tire sure didn't work .

Just take the front fender off. You won't need it down here until October.
