Yeah, Marc. I was looking forward to catching up. Sounds like we'll have to another wrench session soon or an actual "ride". How about that?

Definitely a ride although another wrench session would be just fine.  Still need to remove those nut cages.  LOL.  I can smell the rubber burning every time I hit a bump.

Thanks for having us Allen the food and the company was awesome. Your shop is nice and with a little more time I am sure you will get it the way you want it. Jesse thanks for your help and bringing your cleaner my carbs look awesome can't wait to get them back on the bike and try them out. With luck Dave and I will be able to do that today. Looking forward to some more wrenching and maybe some rides in the future.

Thank you Allen for having us over to visit your "empire". The food was great, the cold drinks very welcome (and necessary) and the fellowship was priceless.

Good to see Jesse after several years. Thanks for your help with the Super Magna.

Jerry and i will be finishing up his Super today after a throttle breakage incident yesterday that held up the completion of the carb rebuild. It was fun having you along for the trailer ride back and forth to Conroe, Texas, bro.

He once got in a staring contest with himself in a mirror and won.

Harley Davidsons drip a little more oil in his presence to honor him.

He doesn't use oil very often, but, when he does, he uses

    I had a great time, and any of my MOOT brother and sisters are welcome anytime I am home to use the shop for whatever you need. It was HOT I think the Devil was playing with us in turning up the heat but we showed him we can wrench anywhere anytime any condition.

Look forward to next time which hopefully will be real soon.

I had a great time, yesterday. It was good seeing everyone, catching up and working on bikes.

Alan, thanks again for hosting and I look forward to seeing how you decide to plan your shop.  Let us know the next time you're off the boat so we can plan another ride or wrench session.

Dave, it was good seeing you again as well and thanks for letting me ride the Super Magna.

Jerry, I am glad you let me use my new toy to clean your carbs and I'm glad you liked the outcome. The fluid is sure nice and dirty, so it must have done some good. I'll be filtering it and using it on my Ninja 250 carbs next. Let us know when you get your Magna back together and if we got that mid-range stumble fixed.

Also thanks to everyone for helping me with my bike as well.

Marc, Lawrence, and Terry, hope you can make it out next time. It would have been great to have y'all there as well.

Jerry's Super is still under construction. He and I got it back together, started it up after cleaning out the vacuum shut off valve to get the fuel flowing and it idled fine for a few minutes and died. Jerry got it started again for a few seconds then I had to crank the fuel enrichment all the way up and crack the throttle to get it to start. Next it wouldn't start at all.

We also had a coolant leak from one of the transfer tubes on the head to the block (someone apparently used the tube as a prying surface when removing the carbs in Conroe).

I threw in the towel and Jerry and I pulled the carbs back off so I could tear them down again and give them another going over. We had the carbs off in about five minutes this time by double teaming the project.

I have them back together and Jerry is chasing down the o ring seals for the transfer tube.

We will get it whipped next go round.

Dave. Did you find anything off-kilter inside Jerry's carbs?

Jesse when Dave took them back apart the only thing out of place was one of the silver covers wasn't on correctly, but it wouldn't have caused it to stop running. Dave and I discussed it and we think maybe since simple green is a soap cleaner and I didn't think to rinse and blow out the carb before we put it back together that maybe there was some soap residue still in the carb that stopped it up because it quit like it ran out of gas and didn't won't to start again. Don't know that for sure but can't think of much else hopefully when we get it back together after Dave cleaned it again using carb cleaner it will run correctly. I would suggest that when you clean carbs in your cleaner again that when you take them out spray them down real good with carb cleaner and then blow them out with an air pressure hose just as a precautionary measure. I am pretty sure that I am the one who caused the water leak prying off one of the carb boots put when I pulled out the water tube the o rings were really hard and had started cracking so it may have caused an issue in the near future any way I have some ordered and should get them in a week or so. Still looking forward to getting it back together  and seeing how it runs. It was a great wrench session and I enjoyed seeing everyone again and look forward to the next event.

Jerry,

That's why I was asking. I was wondering if there may have been some water in the carbs.

However,  I rinsed your carb bank off with the water spray nozzle until no more suds appeared and then dried them out with air compressor. The air compressor nozzle was missing the tiny tip so it's possible that I didn't get enough compressed air in some of the smaller passages. It's probably not a bad to try a carb cleaner flush but most everything I've read says that water and thorough compressed air drying should be sufficient. Maybe we just didn't get it all out.

As far as the rubber gaskets, I think you'll find that to be just the case on all things rubber from the 80s. Especially considering that the extreme operating temperatures of cooling system. I bet if you do this again you might be to able to use a ratchet strap to pull the carbs up using the frame instead of having to pry on anything.

Good luck.
