Quoteknow about the changes on Texas law and I tried to go legal but you couldn't buy an appointment at any DPS office in a 50mile radius of my house and all MSF classes are now booked a month in advance.

Where do you live? Here all you have to do is call at 8 am the day you want to take the test and tell them your coming, you have to have someone drive the officer following you. You do have to have someone driving behind you to the DPS office if you have your permit, and follow you home if you fail. The whole thing doesn't usually take over 30 mins.

North of fort worth TX.
I rode over to Curtis's on a Friday to do as you said above. The Rockwall county DPS office said it was first come first served. and that they were booked solid for the day and on into Monday.
So we went to one in Garland same thing.
So I went home and called my "local" wise county office, they said that they were booked a week in advance and that I could call them back on the following Monday to make an appointment a week or more in advance and they couldn't guarantee a specific time. For me and my "shadow" thats hard to do.
Once you go dark you dont want to park!

I still need to to do a "basic" course. lol. just my luck!
I'll be sitting in a class with a bunch of folks listening to " This is a throttle, This a brake, a motorcycle has to lean"

Imagine how I felt after riding 30+ years, doing track days also, and having to sit there and hear the same thing. I have to admit tho that it didnt hurt that bad

I have taken both the beginner and advanced MSF courses.  I enjoyed both days, but got more from the advanced course, because I brought my own bike.

Gives me a little break on my insurance.

What I don't know is if the advanced course certificate will suffice at DPS to get a Motorcycle endorsement added to your driver's license.  If it will, then it might be worth the $60 or so.  At least you can schedule it on a Saturday...
